Parents find PAS convenient because they are able
to obtain assistance in different areas "under one roof."
Here are some of the services offered by PAS:
- The PAS Tutoring and Testing
Centre : A full-service Centre which offers a variety
of psycho-educational assessments as well as other specialized
testing. We integrate test findings in a unique way which
benefits the special needs student in the classroom. (We
conducted a Workshop on De-mystifying Psycho-Educational
Testing for the Toronto Learning Challenges Association).
- The Tutoring Services
are offered by PAS through its associates, many of
whom speak different languages which is helpful for people
where English is not their first language. Help is also
available in learning how to improve study habits, becoming
better organized, and preparing for tests. Building student
self-confidence and raising self-esteem are central to all
of our programs.
- ESL Instruction (English
as a Second Language) is offered to those students who will
benefit from improving their spoken English skills. Students
having difficulty in school will find their confidence and
performance levels improved as their command of English
is increased.
- Educational Assistants
at Home or in School is a service accessible through
PAS. The support of these para-professionals is essential
to the educational progress of the exceptional students
in their care. When their services are removed or curtailed
it may have a negative effect on their emotions and on their
school work.
- Advocacy Workshops and
Presentations may be organized for parent or professional
groups on a variety of topics including diagnosis and treatment
for special needs students, self-advocacy, parent advocacy
in the school, student and parent rights, preparation for
IPRCs and IEPs and related subjects.
- PAS-ON-CALL: 416-381-3813
A pager communication system is available for stressful
school-related situations, as they are occurring, on an
on-going basis from 9 to 5 Mondays through Fridays. This
allows parents and students to get advice when they need
it.
- Our New Website: www.parentsadvocacy.com
We have redesigned our website with an orientation to the
special needs student and towards a collaboration with school
personnel. We plan to have a Chat Feature which will allow
interaction with the users of our site.
