PAS will explore your situation in detail referring
to pertinent documents, assessments and reports. We would
also like the opportunity to speak with the special
needs student and his or her siblings. Following this
review we will outline a strategy and a plan to follow.
If we are retained by you we will detail the steps and
stages of the plan and how we will work together to
bring it about. At this point a professional fee schedule
will be worked out. There may be some third party insurance
available to you as a result of Dr. Forman being a Registered
Psychologist.
The student plan may entail changes in the school
setting including program, placement or service issues
and it may also include services that PAS offers. For
example, psycho-educational testing, providing an educational
assistant, special needs tutoring, or ESL services may
be useful for the student in question and they would
be available through our group. We will liaise with
school personnel to promote the best interests of the
exceptional student.
Working together with parents PAS will explain the
key elements of school advocacy as it relates to their
child. We will provide support and backup throughout
the advocacy process and will be available for follow-up
at a later date.
In addition to our regular consultations and meetings
we have implemented a communication facilitator called
PAS-ON-CALL (416-381-3813) which will allow parents and students
to access us on a pager Mondays through Fridays from
9-5 in situations of special distress. This procedure
will permit us to provide direct feedback and arrange
for consultation time if needed. We also can make available
to you the services of an educational assistant.
To counteract one of the common experiences of special
needs parents in distress, a sense of isolation, PAS
is organizing a parent network in different schools in order to have an opportunity to share experiences
with other involved parents. Also, we will pool the
efforts of different parents so that they may be called
upon to attend significant meetings at a host school
where a parent needs the numbers to support her case.
This is designed to lighten the load of all participants
when they face a similar situation.
PAS can offer tutoring for exceptional students through
our Tutoring and Testing Centre. Many of the tutors
speak different languages.
