PAS Services

Parent's Advocacy in the School offers a comprehensive variety of services relating to educational advocacy for children with exceptionalities

Including:

For Parents and other Shareholders:

  • Psycho-educational Testing Reports that you can understand
  • Counselling for parents and for children regarding school issues
  • Preparing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that work
  • Assistance with all phases of the IPRC – (Identification, Placement, & Review Committee activities)
  • Referrals for legal opinions
  • Guidance in filling out different educational forms
  • Attendance at school meetings including: IEPs, IPRCs, planning and school work reviews, discussions about suspensions and expulsions
  • Translating and understanding report cards
  • Supplying information and references for community resources to facilitate getting the child's needs met
  • Learning the elements of being an effective parent advocate based on Principles in Dr. Forman's text: Exceptional Children - Ordinary Schools: Getting the Help You Want for Your Special Needs Child (Parent Advocate Coaching Sessions)
  • Sharing the work and findings of the Special Education Advisory Committee-SEAC (mandated by the Ontario Ministry of Education) about ways they can assist parents (Dr. Forman chairs a sub-committee of SEAC designed to raise its awareness)
  • Assistance in Organizing a PAS CHAPTER to support you in dealing effectively with your school
  • As a Member of PAS - Obtaining a Free Copy of : Take an Advocate to School: A Resource Guide to Finding and Keeping a Qualified Advocate

For Corporate, Organizations, Associations:
Dr. Forman pioneered the first training program of its kind in Canada, Parent Consultant in Education Advocacy, both on the web-based distance learning site of the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario and at the George Brown College in Toronto. Currently, as E-Advocacy Project Consultant, he is developing training curricula for the Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada for presentation to their Chapters across Canada.

Fees for Services (As a Registered Psychologist some insurance reimbursements may apply)

Workshop fees
Individuals or groups can retain PAS to present a 3-hour Special Education Advocacy workshop or other format.

Consulting fees
For meetings either by teleconference, or face-to-face in the General Toronto Area including Peel Region, York Region and Durham Region and others by arrangement.

Travel
There will be a 50 cent per KM travel charge to attend meetings more than 10 KM away plus $15 per hour driving time.

Statement of Needs
The charge for writing a comprehensive Statement of Needs to be discussed.

Individual Education Plan
To review the IEP and ensure that it meets Ministry standards and includes measurable goals the fees are to be discussed.

Letter Writing or Helping with Forms
The charge for drafting, assisting with, and/or editing letters of helping with forms is by arrangement.

Special Education Appeal Board
There is no cost to parents for one of us to sit as a member of the Special Education Appeal Board as the parent's representative.

Parent Advocate Coaching Sessions
Four sessions for a fee of $150 with a 10% discount for members.
