Research cited in my book indicates that when problems occur in the school, the administration will often focus only on students and their families as the source of the problem. Sometimes teachers and administratiors can also be at fault. The Ontario College of Teachers provides a list of complaint decisons you can find here. This link is beaing provided to be used as research material for parents who feel that the teacher may be responsible for the problem and to see if the problem is significant enough to require a formal complaint. Reading through decisions on cases with similar circumstances may assist both parents and teachers in gaining perspective on behaviors that are considered professionally unacceptable.

Parents who are concerned about teacher behaviors should trust their intuiition and conclude, that teachers, like the rest of us, are only human and can make mistakes. Official complaints to the OCT are infrequent but if you feel you are having some problems with a teacher over time you have a right to speak to the principal in order to get to the bottom of it.
